The One About The "Sammich" Award For "Best" Person.

(This article originally appeared at The One About...)

(This is the fifth and final installment in a series. Click the links for earlier installments. 1,2,3,4)

Well here we are at the end of our ride. And what a ride it's been. We've seen some of the worst that pop culture has to offer, and now it's almost over. Thank you sweet baby Jebus!

I had originally planned on a category for TV commercials but frankly I decided that it seemed a bit like shooting fish in a barrel. So now we have the final award. This one is for the person who best sums up what The Sammich Awards are all about.

This person has become famous for birthing a litter that would put many dogs to shame, turning her desperate need to find value in the mere fact of her biology into a bizarre public quest for fame.

That's right folks, the winner of The One About Woman Get Back In The Kitchen And Make Me A Sammich Award goes to...(hmm, I wonder if next year I should include a dance number?)

Nadya "Octomom" Suleman!

I'm not trying to be mean, but frankly I find Ms. Suleman pathetic in the truest meaning of the word, namely invoking a feeling of pathos. This is someone who's self esteem is so low that the only way she can feel worthwhile is by having children. Now frankly that would be sad and disturbing if her brood of eight had been her "first" kids, but the fact that prior to that she already had six other children makes it all the more disturbing.

But the blame cannot be solely laid at Ms. Suleman's feet. Where in the hell were the doctors heads in this? And perhaps if there is not already some kind of law restricting the number of embryos that can be implanted there should be. Maybe even a law requiring that already existing children be taken into account.

But ultimately even though I feel Ms. Suleman is a victim, she is still part victimizer as well. By having these kids and making a very public spectacle of herself, she is helping to re-enforce, in the eyes of those looking for such re-enforcement that motherhood is a woman's "highest" calling. And that the only real value lay in a woman's womb. This will be accomplished in part by certain sectors of the anti-female movement trying to spin Suleman and her brood as happy, "normal" etc. When nothing could be further from the truth.

The only potential upside is that maybe, Ms. Suleman and her story will serve as a cautionary tale for other women who put too high a price on motherhood, without giving any other thought to what they might have to contribute to the world.

I shan't end this little rant with a caustic send off as I have the others, but rather a sincere plea that if she is not already receiving professional counseling, Ms. Suleman will seek it, for the good of herself and her children.

Well that's it for now. I'm sincerely hoping that there just won't be enough material for me to do a Second Annual Sammich award "show" next year. But I'm not holding my breath.

And now wimmins, get back in the kitchen and bake me a cake. I'm kind of sammiched out.
