Should Social Networking Companies in the US Have Military Armed Security? - By Lance Winslow

By Lance Winslow

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has said that is has declared war on Western Social Networks, but exactly what does that mean? Does it mean they are at war with software? Does it mean they are at war with 100s of millions of users (every teenager in America), does it mean they will hire hackers to attempt to destroy those networks? What does it mean?

And if a nation-state's army declares war on a social networking company then are their employees safe working in an office building in Silicon Valley, Beverly Hills CA, or somewhere else they might be located? Do the staff, employees and company need to take precautions like hiring armed security? Should the US Military be guarding them to protect them from Iranian insurgents (terrorist cells) inside the United States?

Interestingly enough, both Hamas and Hezbollah used online social networks in the US to try to change public opinion, shape the online media reports, and even try to get donations from MySpace, FaceBook, etc. But, today, it seems that Iran, which funds Hamas and Hezbollah, which are known proxy "terrorist groups" [cite: US State Department] is the one battling the other side of that same coin.

No one declared war on the teenagers of America when their misguided empathy for humanity had them siding with Hamas and Hezbollah during the last two conflicts, but now that Iran is getting the short end of the stick they are declaring war on social online networks. Are our teenagers safe, are these social networks safe? Declaring war on social networks is a declaration or threat to attack via terrorist activity on the United States. I am concerned. Think on this, we need armed security.
