The Almost Guaranteed Best Way to Revive the Auto Industry

I can't disagree, Kyle. A well-known marketing guy, Al Ries, once commented how ridiculous it became for GM that it was pushing a cheap Cadillac model and expensive Saturn model. Talk about cross p... Continue

What If Mets Go Bankrupt?

Seems Fred Wilpon, owner of the New York Mets, has lost much, most or almost all of his fortune in the latest Wall Street investment fund scandal. What will it mean if Wilpon doesn't have enough m... Continue

Auto Bailout: Have U.S. Buy Cars, Give Them to Military

(Note: Following to be posted soon on my political discussion/media analysis web site, www.ourblook.com.) By Gerry Storch It's crazy. American taxpayers are being asked to shell out another $16 billion or so to General Motors and another $5 billion to Chrysler in this second round of the auto company bailouts ... so that they can shut down plants and get rid of tens of thousands of employees. Yes, give them oodles of money so they can destroy parts of themselves. Here's how I would have it… Continue

We'll adjust when newspapers fold

(Note: this will be posted soon on my website, www.ourblook.com) By Gerry Storch So the Chicago Tribune Co. files for bankruptcy. That doesn't mean the Tribune won't continue to publish but it sure makes it possible it will stop at some point soon. Since the other major paper in Chicago, the Sun-Times, also is an economic basket case, could that mean that the nation's third largest metro area ... a gigantic area across three states with more than eight million people ... will be without a pri… Continue

Break Up America? Nyet!

(to be posted soon on my web site, www.ourblook.com ) By Gerry Storch Well ... it had to happen ... with all our economic turmoil, a top Russian official has come out with a prediction that the USA will break up into half a dozen pieces. Of course, he's been saying this for the past 10 years but what the heck, here goes ... Igor Panarin, a professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the author of several books on information warfare, told the Russian d… Continue

Too Much Power of the Press?

I think so ... the press does have too much power ... and here's why. 1) The press has become virtually immune from libel suits. Public figures have no shot at winning a legal complaint as they must prove malice, which explores the reporter's state of mind and is almost impossible to establish, or reckless disregard for the truth. Even a former prosecutor who sued after being falsely accused of taking a bribe lost his libel case because in the opinion of the judge, the reporter's failing to che… Continue
