Global warming: Hoax or Fact?

Hey Phil, I think there is reasonable evidence to suggest that the earth is undergoing climate change (not necessarily "global warming"). However, if I remember correctly from my high school scien... Continue

Keep Us Free

An Obama/Biden Prediction

Okay, I hit my head on the shower door this morning and had a vision of the future that I thought I’d share with you, just for fun. Let’s assume that Barack Obama is presently thinking (in light of the...

Five Simple Ways to Avoid Foreclosure

One of the "talking points" of the left wing is the need for government to take better care of those who are hurting financially. What they fail to mention is that much of the higher corporate taxes they propose to...

The Unsinkable Palin?

A few months ago, while watching her being interviewed on the Glenn Beck program, I thought to myself that Sarah Palin could be the Vice President that would restore some of my confidence in the Republican Party. Needless to say,...

Will Somebody Please Awaken The Giant?

Hello… Excuse me… Ahem. I beg your pardon, but would somebody please rouse the sleeping giant? No, I’m sorry. I wasn’t clear. I don’t mean the mighty military this time. I was referring to the giant formerly known as “the people.”
Hello Sleepyhead. Aside from a few occasional disturbances after which you quickly drifted back into your dreams, I know it’s been fairly quiet. I don’t blame you for your slumber. But you need to know that something dreadful happened while you slept. Your country was stolen from you. Yeah, you missed that. You probably have a distant memory of the days in which your nation was governed by you and your neighbors. I think they still talk about that in history class, although I’m not really sure. Well, you need to know that things have changed.

There are two parties who have taken over the system and seized control of your life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. The fabric of both parties is woven with threads of special interest, corporate interest, and self-interest. Meanwhile you seem to have lost interest. Therefore, they have lost interest in you.

Some of us have been talking and are wondering what has happened to your soul. You know, the soul that once refused to tolerate a long train of government abuses and usurpations of your liberty, even if it cost you your life. We recall your soul when it was one that would not hesitate to stand up and say, “enough,” when others attempted to control your destiny. You used to not back down from a fight when your way of life was under assault. Though you were never blameless, out of your soul used to flow an ethic of hard work, personal responsibility, ingenuity, creativity, and concern for one another, all of which flourished in the fertile soil of freedom that you claimed for yourself.

Well, if you’re up for it, we could sure use you. The constrictor-like grip of the controlling parties can’t be broken without you. In fact, I fear that we will eventually be irreparably crushed. So I plead with you. Wipe the sleep from your eyes. Allow the convictions of your ancestors to restore your soul. And pledge to one another your lives, your fortunes, and your sacred honor in a renewed determination to be free people. Now is a good time for another party. If you’re interested, let me know. I’ll bring the tea.

Tea in the Harbor - Dumping Foreign Goods

Earlier this year it became official. I work for one of those companies that is terminating American employees and sending the work they used to do to third-world countries where people will do the job for pennies on the dollar. I left the meeting where the announcement was made feeling frustrated, and a little helpless. I remember wondering to myself if there are any companies out there who will take a stand on principle and refuse to take jobs away from American workers, even it means a lower… Continue

Why I'm Now A Libertarian

I turned forty this year. The older I get, the more interested I become in the condition of our nation, the prospects for our future as a people, and how these things are being determined by the elected officials in Washington. Through most of my 20's and 30's I was a Christian, conservative, right wing Republican. Now, as I begin my fifth decade (oh crap...that sounds weird), I am still a Christian. I am still conservative. I am now more centrist. And I can no longer call myself a Republican.… Continue

Gelding-in-Chief

America is a deeply divided nation. And one of the things over which we are most divided is the Bush Administration's prosecution of the "War on Terror." Regardless of your opinions about this president and this war, something extraordinary happened Thursday that should worry all of us. In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled Thursday that foreign detainees held for years at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba have the right to appeal to U.S. civilian courts to challenge their indefin… Continue

A Plea for Electoral Competence

“The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all.” ~ John F. Kennedy If the electoral primary season was a bellwether of voter turnout in November, this presidential election could elicit the largest poll participation in recent memory. According to the Associated Press, a record-breaking two million plus voters participated in the February 5th Georgia primary. On January 8th the Boston Globe quoted one New Hampshire poll worker as saying, “This is the biggest turno… Continue

Socialists Say the Darnedest Things

A June 17th story in the Wall Street Journal reveals, through an interview with Obama, some of his economic policies should he be elected president. Read the following excerpts, pause and think about what he is saying, and then finish reading this post.
Sen. Barack Obama shed new light on his economic plans for the country, saying he would rely on a heavy dose of government spending to spur growth, use the tax code to narrow the widening gap between winners and losers in the U.S. ec…
