Our Vision for We Op-Ed
Weoped seeks to become the premiere online destination for political opinions, organization and informed debate. The foundation and driving force of this site will be you, the engaged and curious citizens that comprise the Weoped community. Working together, we strive to establish a vast resource for issue-oriented information and discussion, where everyone from the first-time voter to the political expert can voice their individual opinions, persuade one another, organize and mobilize. In this community, we hope to find others with whom we can form new ideas, rather than harden old ones. We welcome all who seek an alternative to mainstream political coverage, all who want to find other like-minded citizens through a civilized discourse, and anyone who would like to become a part of a community that aims to raise the level of public debate from the bottom, up.
As we continue to improve and add new and innovative features to the site that will offer further means for you to express yourselves, find information and organize, we are eager to hear any suggestions or ideas for ways we can move ahead. Weoped is a community of the members, for the members, and – only with your feedback – by the members. So please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Our Story
Weoped was started by us, Justin and Geoffrey, two friends since college. While idealistic and hopeful for our generation’s potential, we were disillusioned by the increasing lack of civilized discourse in American politics and wanted to see this trend reversed. We felt an urgent need to create a new forum in which to foster a dialogue that would transcend the partisan talking points in the news. Never before had we seen our country and our world so filled with injustice and division, yet never before has the world seen such a unique period of hope and possible redemption. With the promethean flame of the internet we are closer than ever – to each other, to the means and information with which we can realize the fulfillment of our potential. And it is out of this hope that we began work on Weoped. We are excited to be a part of this community. We can’t wait to meet you – to read, write, and debate along with you -- and to discover innovative ways to use the internet as a path towards the common ground.
Who are we?
Justin Krane – Co-Founder of Weoped
After graduating with a B.A. in English Literature from Columbia University in 2004, I earned a Master’s degree at the University of Glasgow. I’ve lived in Boston, Scotland, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Thailand, and South Africa, working and volunteering in a variety of fields. Now I’m back in New York City, excited by the political climate in America and my work with Weoped. And to paraphrase the President of the Hair Club for Men, the great Sy Sperling, I’m not only a Founder of Weoped, I’m also a member.
Geoffrey Barrows – Co-Founder of Weoped
I graduated in 2004, from Columbia University. Then I worked for the Federal Reserve for a few years while earning a Master’s degree in Philosophy. I’ve lived on three different continents and climbed to the highest point in North America, and I don’t mean that metaphorically. I hope to see you on Weoped.com.
Katie Ehrilch - Managing Editor of Weoped
After graduating from NYU in 2007 with degrees in history and journalism, I decided to go with the more practical of the two. In addition to my new gig at We Op-Ed, I'm also a producer for a New York-area local news site. I enjoy sushi, politics and green sneakers. I've enjoyed many of the discussions I've seen on We Op-Ed and really hope to get into it with you all soon. Keep on truckin'.
