predictably annoying
This post will appear somewhat mean spirited- As I will attempt to express my distain for a certain personality trait that is very common. I will call it the attachment to "exactitude" "details" and "facts" or the need to learn how to do "it"
the right way" sensibility.
Many people and very understandably so, rely on details when it comes to things they do. It could be planning and experiencing a vacation, choosing a wine, cigar, playing a sport like golf or tennis, picking out a Music CD, buying a car or funiture or having people over for dinner, driving, eating, bathing, swiming, gardening and so on and so on.
People like instruction and instructors. I distain this and my attitude is annoying especially when I have no legitimate defense for not being open to instruction, in fact I could benefit from more instruction. So on one level I have to be excused for my boorish, adolescent attitude.
I hate details, so one may ask, why do I write with so much detail?- again I have no legitimate excuse.
I like to fancy myself a natural- one who learns instinctively- When ever I play or have played a sport- I did not like instruction, I resent coaching of any kind. I am not a good team player, however I have denied this on almost all interviews I ever experienced.
When I play golf, I am not good but I am natural, I have a natural feel for the game. When I played basketball as a younger man I had a natural feel for the game. I was natural at many things and I don't like to be told what to do; well isn't that special or childish or whatever adjective you wish to apply.
A story I heard regarding the legendary golfer Ben Hogan: After hitting a great pitch shot- another person asked: Hey Ben great shot, what club did you use?
Ben said nothing but proceeded to take every club out of his bag- hit the very same shot and walked away saying nothing! I love this story!
Many people like to get the names of things exactly correct, whether it is a medical term for a part of the human anatomy or a term for something in plant life or how such and such a thing works or how to accurately cook or prepare something.
I hate this with a passion! When a person describes a fact of somekind like the temperature of so and so is, or the climatic change in dew point is related to such and such or the color red signifies such and such, or when driving it is best to do this or that. When taking out wine to serve it should be- What I am attempting to describe is more then what these academic types call type A personality or anal retentiveness. [Than- Then- you figure it out]
In fact these very terms are indicative of what I distain. I hate things being described out of existence. There must be a term to describe my personality according to what I just wrote- I'm sure there is.
So many people appear to crave exactitude- What a pity. Well with the price of gas- is it not undersandable that people would want exact directions?
When one goes to a physician, is it not understandable that they would demand exactitude? I say absolutely NOT! Even medicine is more or less a faith- no big revelation here I know.
Spelling, of which I have many problems- Thank god for spell check and yes I am aware many of my posts are filled with mis-spelled words and typos. I hate the exactitude of spelling but I guess it may be a necessary evil.
The constrictions, expectations, the sameness of everything such as predictable tatoos, piercings, stating "think outside of the box" - all examples of mindless phrases and behaviors that are all annoying.
Especially annoying- the tatoos, piercings and such- all middle class predictibilities.
I hate mob, herd mentality- and if I state that I am different- this is completely predictable and annoying as we are all unique and different- "isn't that right/" isn't that special?"
An ordinary example of one aspect I am attempting to get across-
I knew a young woman years ago who had genuine flights of fancy if you will- the structured world of psychology I am sure would have labeled her some form of schizo- something or other. She did not need to put on "crazy" clothing or body piercing or tatoos or multi-colored hair measured so correctly by a middle class standard of what looks genuinely rebellious. No she did not exhibit this form of predictable safe behavior- she was genuinely wild and lovely.
I hate measured rebelliousness more that a strict conservative asshole.
I have distain for the perfect little lives people attempt to live. And I am aware that these perfect little lives or lies do not come about easily, so I guess I may have to, once in a while give an "A" for effort.
Well maybe I better shut up now and wait for some middle class liberal type to discuss BS matters of global warming or "not on my watch" BS, or some other kind of recycling BS or an attempt to get someone to donate to a tax deductible charitable organization- and yes quoting Dylan is also boorish. [ But he is pretty good at words]
I will end with a very common but somewhat true observation: Most people who society labels as geniuses never get "A" s -in fact an A student is almost always a sign that we have no genius here.
If anyone suffered the annoynance of this post- I appologize.
